The Asmat Tribe is well known for their wood carving and sculptures. They have created some of the finest wood sculptures the world has seen, and it comes as art that is exemplified with strong lines and designs. These talented artists can easily carve a sculpture out of a tree, and they do it with such fine workmanship that it is easy to see why their works are coveted by art collectors worldwide.

Tour Itinerary

Day. 01

Arrival In Jayapura

On arrival in Jayapura and we will take the connecting flight to Timika. On arrival in Timika, we will stop for lunch or check in to your hotel. We will continue our trip on next morning to Agats using speed boat. Free afternoon do more shopping for food supplies and make sure things are fixed accordingly. Dinner on a local restaurant. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day. 02

Timika – Ewer – Agats

Fly from Timika to Ewer by pioneer flight. Ewer is the name of the airstrip in the Asmat region. from Ewer by motorized canoe about 30 minutes to Agats (the main town of Asmat regency). Upon arrival then check-in at local accommodation. After lunch walk to Syuru village, Asmat museum and Asmat foundation. Afternoon back to our Local Inn and overnight stay.

Day. 03

Agiats – Beriten

 Breakfast at the local resto and then together with our cooks and helper on board the motorized canoe for about 3 hours to Beriten village. Lunch will have at a longhouse in Beriten village. In the afternoon rowing with the Asmat tribe paddle upriver to see the wild life in jungle. In late afternoon back to the village for dinner and overnight stay at longhouse.

Day. 04

Beriten – Omandesep

Breakfast. Prepare for leaving then heading Omandesep for 3 hours by motorized canoe ride through the ocean, we will pass 2 big rivers. Arrive at the village, walk to the longhouse for check-in and then as usual when the guest arrives the Asmat people will welcome the guest by direct the guest to their longhouse. After lunch paddle or walk into the swampy jungle with the Asmat people to see the sago processing  (sago is the main food in Asmat). The process to make pure Sago can be one day and some of the locals also take the sago worm for protein. You will have the chance to taste the local food. Late afternoon walks or paddling back to the village for dinner and overnight.

Day. 05

Fullday In Amandesep

 Omandesep lies far to the south from Agats, just close to the river called Faretsj. We spend the whole day here to comprehend the local daily life. Asmat peoples eat sago as their main food staple. Sago is taken from the sago tree which is thrive well in many part of Asmat.  Sago is growing well on the muddy area.  Sago ball is burn directly in the coal in their kitchen. It is a tasteless and hard to chew. Locals also go for fishing on the sea water. Fish, crabs, snails, etc are taken from the water. Domesticated plant is very rare in Asmat. Fresh water is mainly taken from the rain. So no wonder than fresh water is among the big problem in Asmat.

Day. 06

Amandesep – Agats

 Back to Agats by motorized canoe. Lunch serves on the boat. Arrive at Agats and you may walk around the town of Agats. Overnight at Local Inn.

Day. 07

Agats – Timika

Early in the morning by motorized canoe to Ewer airport for the pioneer flight back to Timika. (Supposed it is Wednesday).
