The Korowai Tribe ( Tree House Tribe ): is one of the last remaining tribes in the world who still maintain an ancient way of life, completely untouched by modern civilization. Their culture is truly fascinating, and their way of living has remained the same for thousands of years. They have preserved their unique customs, beliefs, and traditions, despite facing challenges from the outside world.

Living in the dense forests of Papua, the Korowai people use only natural resources and materials to construct their homes, which can reach up to 30 meters high to protect them from floods and animals. Their methods of hunting and gathering are equally as impressive, utilizing techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation. They believe in animism, a spiritual belief system in which objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence.

Visiting the Korowai people is an incredible experience that allows travelers to witness firsthand this unique and awe-inspiring culture. Through their art, clothing, music, and dance, the Korowai people express and celebrate their traditions with pride and dignity, embracing the beauty of their heritage. Tour Itinerary

Day. 01

Arrival In Jayapura

On arrival at Sentani airport of Jayapura, meet us and catching regular flight to Dekai/Yahokimo,( This is a flexible plan depending on your arrival and the availability of flight tickets to Dekai. But recommended to fix the flight for the next day because: flights are very often delayed due to weather conditions and we strongly recommend carrying baggage as needed for your trip in the Koroway. We will help you to arrange it and keep it with us before leaving). Make more preparation before leaving to Dekai. While preparing for the trip,lunch will be served at local resto in the toen and we will visit floating Resto for dinner. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day. 02

Jayapura – Dekai

After morning breakfast, you will catch your flight to Dekai and we will prepare and make sure that things are being fixed with the foods supplies, boat etc. Rest of the day you may walk around Dekai villages to explore Dekai small town. Lunch and dinner will be served at street restaurant. overnight stay Hotel in Dekai.

Day. 03

Dekai – Logpon – Mabul

After morning breakfast, take a short transfer by Jeep to Lokpon and today travel by motorized canoe through Brazza River for approx 7-8 hours. From Brazza river up to Kolf River on destination to Mabul. There are wildlife can be seen on the way – sometimes the world’s biggest crocodiles lurking in the water, sometimes water turtles, sometimes just birds and parrots. Estimated arrival in Mabul should be in the afternoon.

NOTE: We can reach Mabul earlier or late and it depends on weather conditions such; river condition low or high tide. It takes us slower when it is lower tide and otherwise when it is high tide, it takes us faster.

Day. 04 – 06

Meet Korowai Tribe & Stay With Them

we will spend 3 days with Korowai Tribe and during 3 days stays, you will have a chance to see, experience and share with the beauty and menacing power of one of the wildest stretches of rainforest in the world with the tribe of Korowai. The participants of the expedition will get an opportunity to admire the untouched flora and fauna, learn a few basic rules of survival in the jungle, possibly with a chance of going hunting. We’ll also see how to make sago, build a trap for a wild pig.

Not only the mentioned things to see and experienced but there are many things can be seen, experienced and shared with Korowai tribes. Thet are alwaays eager to show what they got as part of their life. And ofcourse this kind of tours would be the authentic and unique lifelong experience for you.

During 3 days stays, we will share many things with locals; collecting local foods, cooking, serving and enjoying what we got together with Korowai tribe. This means no border or brings us togetherness as one family in Korowai Local Families.

Day. 07

Mabul – Logpon – Dekai

Early in the morning return to the Mabul village. Farewell to the porters and repacking our equipment. All-day-long boat trip on the Brazza and Siret River back to Dekai. Pick up from the harbor and drive back to town. Accommodation in a local hostel (very basic conditions). Lunch and dinner will be in the small Warung (Food Stalls).
