Birding Trip In Klasow Valley, West Papua

On arrival in Sorong Airport, you will catch your 4×4 car and drive along the coast to the Sausapor District where well known as the spot of incredible species can be found here. It takes 3-4 hours drive to the birding spot.

The expected birds in this valley are; Lesser Bird of Paradise, King Bird of Paradise, and Magnificent Riflebird. Beyond Sausapor, you will also visit the remote village of Klabili for more birdwatching such; Glossy-mantled Manucode, Golden Myna, and many other species can been seen here !

Tour Itinerary :

Day. 01

Sorong – Klasow Valley

On arrival in Sorong city, proceed to your 4×4 car, do shopping for necessary supplies and continue to Klasow Valley. It takes two and half hour drive. Lunch will be arranged. On arrival, check in and do more preparation for next birding. Dinner will be at local restaurant. Back to the accomodation & overnight.

Day. 02

Klasow Valley

: at Sausapor Region

You should wake up earlier in the morning and we will leave out around 4:30 am to the birding spot. We take a packed breakfast to served in the forest with hot tea or coffee.

Expected birds can be seen are such; The Lesser Bird of Paradise, the King Bird of Paradise, Magnificent Riflebird, and other species such as the Hooded Butcherbird, Yellow-faced Myna, Spangled Drongo, Brown Oriole, Pinon Imperial Pigeon, Pink-spotted Fruit Dove, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Palm Cockatoo, and more.

On lunch time, we will return to your accomodation and take a rest. After lunch break, we will continue the birding tour around the forest. The Expected birds; Yellow-billed Kingfisher, Azure Kingfisher, and Rufous-bellied Kookaburra, Emperor Fairywren, Mimic Meliphaga, Shining Flycatcher, Olive-backed Sunbird, Black Sunbird and more.

During the night, you can see the Papuan Frogmouth and Marbled Frogmouth.

Day. 03

Klasow Valley

: at Klabili Region

You will have an early breakfast and we check out and drive to Klabili village. It takes 1-2 hours drive. Upon arrival, we will do check in at local guesthouse before we start birdwatching around the village.

The expected birds would be; The Magnificent Riflebird, Glossy-mantled Manucode, Golden Myna, Double-eyed Fig Parrot, Zoe’s Imperial Pigeon, Papuan Pitta, Hooded Pitta, Orange-bellied Fruit Dove, Frilled Monarch, Boyer’s Cuckooshrike and could be more. After lunch and some rest, we return to the forest at 2:30 pm expecting to see more unseen birds.

In the afternoon, back to your homestay and realx wait for dinner.

Day. 04

Klasow Valley – Sorong City

After breakfast, we will do a morning birding around the village before we return to Sorong. Back to your homestay, packing and drive back to Sorong. On arrival in Sorong, check in at your hotel and have lunch at local resto. You are free till dinner time. Dinner will at the local resto.
